Business Manager

The Business Manager is directly responsible to the Superintendent. The Business Manager shall develop, recommend, and administer approved programs for receipt, custody, investment and disbursement of funds. He/she shall be responsible for developing accounting procedures, payroll functions, debt service program, internal auditing and budgetary policies, programs and procedures for the district. He/she shall be responsible for working with all administrative personnel with respect to fiscal matters. He/she shall have overall responsibility for purchasing, transportation and school food service program.
Requirements for the Position
- Experience level
- Minimum of five years experience in school business office preferred
- Understanding and knowledge of modern business procedures including data processing
- Ability to supervise, direct, and manage business functions
- Educational background
- A four-year college graduate in the area of accounting, business administration and/or business education preferred

Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, recommend, initiate, coordinate and direct the overall programs and operations of the business office and direct the assigned personnel. The Business Manager may delegate portions of these responsibilities to subordinates, together with proportionate authority, but he/she may not delegate or relinquish the ultimate accountability.
- Set up and oversee all accounting and internal controls for the proper recording and reporting of all District financial transactions
- Develop procedures for and prepare the annual budget
- Shall supervise all cash management and investment of all district funds
- Oversee and coordinate all internal and external data processing operations of the district
- Be responsible for management of all long- and short-term debts, oversee the completion and maintenance of all required financial reports
- Supervise the work of the Food Service Director in the overall operation of the school food service program
- Supervise the work of the Assistant Business Manager
- Administer all insurance programs
- Prepare pertinent fiscal data for negotiations
- Assist in developing and maintaining salary schedules, benefit programs, employee records and related information for district employees
- Develop and recommend purchasing policies and procedures, be responsible for all preparation and awarding of bids, establish inventory control levels for supplies and equipment
- Serve as district liaison with each municipality's planning commission, authority, etc., on issues concerning fiscal management of services provided to the school
- Supply financial information involved in new or renovated buildings
- Supervise the preparation, collection, and record-keeping of all tax bills for the district
- Perform other duties which are consistent with the position of Business Manager as directed by the Superintendent of Schools
