Welding Shop Technician

Overview

Dan Cristiani Excavating is a leading contractor with over 54 years of experience in utility construction and excavation services across the Midwest. We are looking for a skilled and safety-minded Shop Welding Technician to join our team. This position plays a key role in supporting field and shop operations by fabricating, repairing, and maintaining equipment, machinery, and structural components. The ideal candidate will have strong technical welding abilities, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety and quality standards.

JOB DUTIES:

• Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication on equipment, parts, and structural components using MIG, TIG, stick, and oxy-acetylene processes.
• Repair and maintain heavy equipment, attachments, and shop tools as needed.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine requirements.
• Safely set up and operate welding equipment, grinders, torches, and other shop tools.
• Fabricate brackets, guards, and custom parts for jobsite and shop use.
• Inspect completed welds for strength, quality, and adherence to specifications.
• Assist shop mechanics with equipment repairs and modifications.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring tools and materials are stored properly.
• Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment to keep it in good working order.
• Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
• Other duties as assigned to support shop and field operations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent (trade school or certification preferred).
• 2 years of welding and fabrication experience (industrial, heavy equipment, or construction preferred).
• Proficient with MIG, TIG, and stick welding methods,
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Basic mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment and shop machinery.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment.
• Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and pass all company-required screenings (drug, background, etc.).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to lift over 50lbs
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the job, such as prolonged physical exertion, and may require prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, and working in awkward positions, crawling under or climbing on top of equipment.
• Exposure to noise, heat, dust and fumes as found in a repair facility
• Ability to constantly work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions.
• Ability to frequently climb in and out of various types of equipment

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma; minimum of 4 years of experience

SCHEDULE:

• Full- Time Position, (1st Shift: 6:00AM - 4:00PM)
• Work Location: Charlestown IN, In person
• Expected hours: 40 – 50 hours weekly; Monday to Friday

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 45 – 50 per week
