Role Description The Fitter role at Dallas Fabrication is a full-time, on-site position based in Carrollton, TX. The Fitter is responsible for interpreting fabrication drawings, measuring and marking materials, and assembling structural steel components to specified tolerances. Day-to-day tasks include fitting and aligning beams, columns, and plates, preparing materials for welding, and verifying dimensions using appropriate tools and gauges. The role involves working closely with welders, machine operators, and supervisors to ensure parts are fabricated accurately, safely, and on schedule. The Fitter is expected to follow company safety standards, maintain a clean work area, and support continuous improvement of fabrication processes.
Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings, blueprints, and shop details; strong understanding of measurements, layout, and basic math.
- Hands-on experience in fitting structural steel components, including measuring, cutting, aligning, and preparing materials for welding.
- Familiarity with common fabrication processes and equipment such as sawing, burning, drilling, punching, coping, and basic welding practices.
- Knowledge of shop safety procedures, proper use of personal protective equipment, and safe operation of hand and power tools.
- Attention to detail and quality, with the ability to verify dimensions, check alignment, and meet specified tolerances consistently.
- Physical ability to lift and move steel materials, stand for extended periods, and work in a production shop environment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills; ability to work with supervisors, welders, and other fabrication team members to complete projects.
- Previous experience in structural steel fabrication or fitting is preferred; vocational training or certification in metal fabrication is a plus.
