Fitter / Fabricator - Billboard Manufacturing

About the Role

We are a billboard manufacturing shop building large structural steel assemblies that are shipped and installed nationwide. We’re looking for a fitter/fabricator to support our welding team by preparing, aligning, and assembling components before welding.

This role is critical to production quality. A good fitter ensures everything is square, aligned, and ready—so welders can execute clean, consistent welds.

What You’ll Do

• Read and interpret shop drawings
• Measure, mark, and lay out steel components accurately
• Fit and align structural assemblies (frames, columns, catwalks, supports)
• Tack weld components in preparation for final welding (if capable)
• Use tools such as:
• • Tape measure, square, levels
  • Grinders and cutting tools
  • Torch (oxy-fuel) for cutting and adjustment
• Set up assemblies to minimize distortion during welding
• Work closely with welders to ensure proper fit-up and sequencing
• Verify dimensions and tolerances before welding begins
• Help move and position materials using shop equipment

What We’re Looking For

• Experience in fabrication, fitting, or general metalwork (2 years preferred)
• Strong measuring and layout skills
• Ability to read and work from shop drawings
• Experience using grinders, torches, and fabrication tools
• Understanding of how fit-up affects weld quality
• Ability to lift 75 lbs and work on your feet

Nice to Have:

• Basic welding experience (MIG, flux core. Pipe, beam, angle or tack welding)
• Experience with structural steel assemblies
• Experience working in a fabrication or manufacturing shop (iron worker, hydraulic punch, magnetic drill, etc)

Work Environment

• Indoor fabrication shop (unconditioned, with airflow)
• Heavy steel assemblies and active production floor
• Overhead bridge crane
• Team-oriented environment with a focus on quality and accountability

What Success Looks Like

• Assemblies are square, aligned, and within tolerance before welding
• Welders are set up for success with clean, consistent fit-up
• Minimal rework due to alignment or prep issues
• Strong communication and teamwork with welders and supervisors
