Job Description
Performs professional transportation planning duties in support of the Transportation Planning Division.
Responsibilities
Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Planning or in a job related field of study. One (1) year of professional work related experience in urban transportation planning or traffic engineering.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Knowledge of theory, methods and procedures involved in urban transportation planning and project development and programming. Knowledge of state and federal planning requirements and criteria for transportation and other legislation, regulations and rules relevant to transportation. Knowledge of state and federal transportation systems, programs and funding sources. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, with a good driving record.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
Standard office environment. Ability to travel to various work site locations.

Responsibilities
- Assists in the oversight and management of transportation planning functions and projects.
- Recommends capital improvement projects and priorities based upon needs analysis and coordinates activities with cities, counties, state and federal agencies.
- Performs investigative and research work; and develops new and improved techniques, procedures and policies related to regional mobility and candidate projects for future County funding.
- Monitors and analyzes regional mobility and transportation needs, and assists in the preparation and maintenance of a comprehensive thoroughfare plan for the County in cooperation with political jurisdictions, agencies and citizen groups.
- Ensures consistency between regional transportation plans and Dallas County road inventory; and assists in coordinating the preparation of Dallas County’s element of the annual Regional Transportation Improvement Program.
- Identifies funding options and opportunities for joint project funding and development to ensure maximum benefit to citizens from available County funds; and develops project implementation strategies.
- Reviews federal and state legislation relating to transportation and analyzes the impact of legislation on the County and region.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
