Overview
The Service Agent – Public Works is a highly skilled position that inspects, reviews, and evaluates all aspects of operational activities to ensure compliance and standard safety measures are within the city’s compliance. Schedules and determines appropriate maintenance repairs to maintain or achieve minimum property standards and handles difficult technical problems as needed.
Essential Functions
1 Conducts inspections in an assigned geographical area and related project areas to determine safety, structural, and/or applicable codes and ordinances; investigates alleged violations of federal, state, and local codes, ordinances, and regulations; ensures corrections are made for deficiencies and assists in determining methods to achieve conformance.
2 Investigates, researches, and responds to various requests from City Manager's Office, other departments, and the public to gather information regarding the various aspects of presented requests and concerns; identifies issues, determines appropriate actions, and ensures the most appropriate solution is recommended and implemented.
3 Inspects a variety of complex construction concerns completed by contractors and other entities to ensure compliance with city's paving and construction standards; inspects floodplain and storm sewer flow areas, hazardous street, and sidewalk failures, in addition to damage to guardrails and bridge failures.
4 Assists and supports emergency services and provides professional recommendation when needed; interacts and collaborates with citizens, engineers, contractors, and other agencies to ensure appropriate specifications are met for project/maintenance compliance; interprets contractual language and serves as a liaison between management, field staff and other professionals.
5 Schedules, organizes, and coordinates appropriate course of action in consultation with the parties involved to ensure that the request is acted on in the most expeditious and efficient manner; responds to the parties initiating service requests to keep them informed of what action is proposed to be taken, by whom, and when it is scheduled to be taken.
6 Research maps, plats, and other records and data to obtain information to determine the scope of responsibilities of parties to make recommendations for action to be taken; coordinates service delivery and ensures requests are handled with professional effectiveness and in a timely manner.
7 Maintains. updates, edits, and organizes data in the computer pertaining to service requests received, actions proposed, and measures taken to ensure proper disposition of requests in compliance with city's policies and procedures.
8 Assists supervisors in meeting deadlines, scheduling jobs, and otherwise helping to resolve complaints to ensure the effectiveness of response to service requests.
9 Coordinate City operation functions such as construction, drainage, tree inventory, mowing and landscaping across multiple internal and external departments and outside governmental agencies
10 Performs all other tasks as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of municipal, state, and federal regulations.
2 Knowledge of city mandates, including protocols, policies, and procedures.
3 Ability to determine code violations.
4 Ability to interpret, educate, and make recommendations to correct maintenance issues,
5 Ability to investigate, collect and analyze information for accuracy, consistency, and conformance to established policy.
6 Ability to determine concerns and service requests and identify courses of action.
7 Ability to interpret ordinances, codes, and departmental policy.
8 Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
9 Ability to interact tactfully with employees and the public. Ability to coordinate the work of others.
10 Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
11 Establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
EXPERIENCE:
- Two (2) years of customer service experience which must include complaint resolution.
AND
- One (1) year of experience conducting field inspections.
LICENSE:
- Valid driver's license with good driving record
Salary Range
$50,721.47 - $57,628.36
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
