Interim Controller - Manufacturer - Portsmouth, MA
We are recruiting for an Interim Controller with a growing manufacturing company based in Portsmouth, NH. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will lead a team of three while remaining hands-on with audit preparation, month-end close, and overall financial management. The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting professional with a manufacturing background and proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced, private equity–backed environment.
This is a 6-month contract role offering $120–$140 per hour, depending on experience. The position requires on-site presence one day per week.
Responsibilities:
Lead the 2025 audit process, including preliminary work in October and year-end completion.
Oversee month-end close to ensure accuracy and timeliness; review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, while managing accruals, cash flow, and reconciliations.
Prepare work papers and coordinate with external tax advisors, maintaining a clear understanding of entity structure and compliance requirements.
Manage and support the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and high-quality deliverables.
Oversee financial operations within Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Business Central (legacy version).
Manage a multi-entity structure consolidated operationally under one entity.
Collaborate closely with the CFO, external auditors, and tax advisors to support financial reporting and compliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- 8-10 years of experience in a Controller role (public accounting/audit background highly desirable)
- Manufacturing industry experience required
- Experience in private equity-backed companies preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP, audit, and compliance
- Hands-on approach—able to independently close the books when needed
- Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
- Comfortable managing up to executives and partnering with auditors
