A well-established private investment office is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee accounting, financial planning, budgeting, and treasury activities across a sophisticated investment and operating structure. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for an experienced CPA who enjoys working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment with exposure to private investments, trusts, corporate entities, and charitable organizations.
This position requires four days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting, accounts payable, budgeting, and FP&A activities across multiple entities.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting while ensuring accurate books and records.
- Develop and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes.
- Manage corporate budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting.
- Oversee cash management, treasury activities, bank reconciliations, and financing initiatives.
- Manage budgeting and cash planning for private equity and venture capital investments, including capital call forecasting.
- Oversee accounting, budgeting, and financial planning for affiliated charitable organizations.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel, and other professional service providers.
- Ensure compliance with tax filings, 1099 reporting, retirement plan administration, and other regulatory requirements.
- Partner closely with senior leadership on strategic initiatives, operational improvements, and special projects.
- Supervise and mentor a small accounting team while collaborating across multiple business functions.
Qualifications
- CPA required.
- 10–20 years of professional accounting and finance experience.
- Strong understanding of corporate accounting, trusts, partnerships, nonprofit organizations, and related tax considerations.
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A processes.
- Excellent knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with accounting and financial software such as QuickBooks, Quicken, and Microsoft Office applications.
