Job Summary
This position is responsible for the smooth operation of the optical department by providing unprecedented care to DEI patients with customer service and optical skills along with ability in salesmanship. This position is integral in the success of the optical department by maintaining communication with the optical manager on matters pertaining to the department. Day-to-day, ongoing work provides interaction and assistance with patients in styling, adjusting, and troubleshooting eyewear while working in conjunction with other individuals in the organization to provide an exemplary patient experience and improving patients lives by improving their sight.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides quality care and an exceptional experience for all patients, directly or indirectly
- Provides patients with quality education on their eyewear needs
- Develops skills and performs styling, measuring, adjusting, selling, and dispensing of eyewear
- Performs selling and can keep the optical department profitable with high sales while also maintaining a low cost of goods
- Knowledgeable of the insurances we accept and can process orders for eyewear
- Checks the quality of orders received and verifies the accuracy of prescriptions
- Assists patients that are having issues with their eyewear and can troubleshoot and resolve patient issues
- Assists in the contact lens area and performs other duties as deemed necessary
- Answers phone calls, collects money, balances money collection reports daily, and tracks product orders
- The employee is punctual and can complete assigned shifts unless excused by the supervisor. Personal time use is kept within the guidelines as set forth in the policy manual.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Use of hand coordination and dexterity
- Effective communication skills
- Computer skills
- Ability and willingness to assist wheelchair-bound patients
- Ability to be on your feet for an 8 hour shift
- Willingness to develop new skills
