This posting is for 2 part-time positions, 40 hours per pay period, scheduled in coordination with the supervisor. These positions are temporary for a period of up to 6 months (non-benefit eligible).

This position reports to the Public Health Supervisor of the Disease Prevention and Control team and will support Disease Prevention and Control activities delegated by the Supervisor including but not limited to provide Public Health Nursing services for clients in the Refugee Health Program, case management for Perinatal Hepatitis B clients and Latent Tuberculosis clients, and assist with Active Tuberculosis cases and contact investigations. This position also participates in vaccination clinics and is part of the Disease Prevention and Control response team during a public health emergency.

The position will be located in the Western Service Center in Apple Valley but work may also be performed at offsite clinics.

Minimum Qualifications

NEED TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing AND
• One year of professional nursing experience that included working with communicable diseases and/or immunizations in public health, school, or community-based settings, hospital or clinic facilities AND
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota AND
• Current registration as a Public Health Nurse in Minnesota or qualifications to register and ability to obtain before start date AND
• Valid Driver's License
  
  

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to speak, read, and/or write in a secondary language (e.g., Somali, Spanish)
• Experience working with Refugee and Immigrant populations
• Experience working with people with Tuberculosis disease or infection
• Experience in working with clinics, schools, and other community sites on communicable disease investigations
• Master's Degree in Nursing
• One or more years of experience as a Public Health Nurse
• Experience with immunization clinics and vaccine schedules
• Use of computerized medical charting systems (particularly MIIC, Ph-Doc, and MEDSS)
• Pursuant to Dakota County Policy, this position is designated as Safety Sensitive. “Safety-sensitive position” means a position, including any supervisory or management position, in which impairment caused by drug, alcohol, or cannabis use would threaten the health and safety of any person as defined in Minnesota Statutes Section 181.950, subdivision 13.
  
  

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide immunization services to targeted populations at DCPH clinics and other community sites.
• Conduct communicable disease investigations as well as provide home visits and case management of clients, acting as a resource for disease prevention information and active surveillance to clinics and health systems in Dakota County.
• Develop expertise in use of department wide electronic information systems.
• Perform public health emergency response functions as trained and assigned within the department's emergency response plan.
• Represent the department and county on preparedness issues to the public, internal and external groups and organizations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed within a County office building, at community sites, and client home visits. Travel is required. Exposure to potential hazardous physical conditions such as environmental conditions of unsanitary homes and property, unsafe neighborhoods, challenging clients and family members, pets, and animals; exposure to hazardous materials such as blood, and other body fluids; lifting requirement of up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, tablet, printer, phone, cell phone, copy and fax machines, video camera, nursing supplies and equipment including scales, syringes, hazardous waste, N95 respirators, blood pressure equipment and car seats.
