Position Information

Campus Dean-CEO, Dakota College at Bottineau

Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) is seeking a new Campus Dean who will serve as CEO of the campus. DCB is a two-year college of approximately 1200 students located in Bottineau, North Dakota. DCB is one of the 11 campuses of the North Dakota University System (NDUS), governed by the ND State Board of Higher Education (SBHE), and is an affiliate campus of Minot State University (MSU). DCB is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Background

DCB, founded in 1906, currently offers over 30 career/technical programs or options leading to certificates of completion, diplomas, or AAS degrees. It also offers comprehensive university parallel/transfer coursework leading to AA or AS degrees.

The DCB campus dean is the chief executive officer of the campus and is an advisor to the NDUS Commissioner in matters of interinstitutional policy and administration. The MSU president oversees the roles and responsibilities of the DCB campus dean, monitors and evaluates the dean’s performance, along with determining compensation and salary adjustments for the campus dean.

The dean has full authority and responsibility, with oversight provided by the president of MSU, to administer the affairs of the DCB campus in accordance with SBHE policies, plans, budgets, and standards, including the management and expenditure of all institutional funds, within budgetary and other limitations imposed by law or by the SBHE.

The DCB campus dean is the college’s main representative in the Bottineau community and in the region served by the college.

Bottineau/Lake Metigoshe, North Dakota

Bottineau and Lake Metigoshe have an estimated population of 3000 residents. Bottineau and Lake Metigoshe are located in north central North Dakota near the Turtle Mountains, approximately 80-90 miles northeast of Minot, ND. Although the mountains are rolling, wooded hills interspersed with lakes, they provide a setting for a variety of recreational activities within easy commuting distance of Bottineau and give substance to the area's reputation as a "Four Seasons Playground." Lake Metigoshe, The International Peace Garden, Bottineau Winter Park, J. Clark Salyer Refuge, Lake Metigoshe State Park, Mystical Horizons, and the Turtle Mountain Forest are just some of the natural assets that surround Bottineau and provide recreational opportunities as well as acres and acres of outdoor learning laboratories.

Duties And Responsibilities

These are as set forth in SBHE Policy 305.1, College and University Presidents’ Authority and Responsibilities, in addition to or excepting as follows:

  • Tenure recommendations: to be made by the DCB campus dean to the president of Minot State University;
  • Other recommendations: review and approve all recommendations transmitted to the Commissioner, the president of Minot State University, and the Board from the College; and
  • Additional authority and responsibilities:
  • Participates as a member of MSU’s University Cabinet.
  • Maintains a presence in the Minot community and with DCB’s Minot facilities, per the manner and schedule agreed upon by the DCB campus dean and MSU president.
  • In collaboration with the MSU president, provides for associate and certificate programming for the Minot region and acts as a brokering entity for other career and technical programming to be brought to the region by NDUS community colleges.
  • In collaboration with the MSU president, provides for the delivery of developmental or remedial coursework except that taught by MSU faculty.
  • As may be assigned by the Commissioner, the MSU president, or the SBHE.

The DCB Campus Dean Directly Oversees The Work Of

  • Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
  • Associate Dean for Administrative Services
  • Associate Dean for Student Services
  • Executive Assistant to the Campus Dean
  • Director of the DCB Foundation (in connection with the DCB Foundation’s Board)

Required Qualifications

  • An earned master’s degree, with consideration of earning a doctorate within six years of appointment
  • Experience in higher education to include budgeting, planning, and fundraising
  • An understanding of the varied levels of preparedness students who enroll at community colleges possess, with a special understanding of the needs and requirements of the underprepared
  • A commitment to student-centeredness and academic excellence
  • A passion for career and technical education, liberal arts, transfer programs, and workforce training – to include cooperative arrangements with business and industry

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate
  • A commitment to collaborative efforts with other higher education institutions
  • Experience with modes of distance delivery for instruction and student services
  • Senior-level administrative experience in higher education

Additional Requirements

A successful applicant will be required to pass a criminal background check prior to employment.

Salary And Benefits

Salary based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health insurance and retirement. Health insurance is provided through the office of the North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (NDPERS). The premium is paid in full by the College for both single and family plans. A retirement plan is available through TIAA with both contributions and matched employer contributions. The maximum rates of allowed contributions and match change with years of service. The College offers annual and sick leave, as well as long-term disability insurance. Life insurance is offered by the College, and additional coverage may be purchased at competitive rates by the employee.

April 1, 2026 or sooner, depending on availability.
