Function as an experienced fleet professional to perform technical and preventative maintenance training for in-house fleet maintenance shops.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Confirm inventory of preventative maintenance (PM) related tooling and inspect for safety and readiness. Include laptop and kiosk stations with associated software and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) data access
- Work with the local fleet manager and supervisor (FM/FS) to ensure that PM schedules are in specification and workload balanced
- Train local FM/FS in all first training sessions for each equipment type
- Verify that each technician is trained in at least two equipment types (truck, tractor, reefer, yard tractor), and more where possible
- Collaborate with FM/FS to setup efficient PM quality audit process and cadence
- Schedule within shifts that technicians work (to not change technicians’ work hours)
- Guide each training session and comment on each technician’s strengths; provide any follow-up training needed
- Pinpoint with FM/FS areas needing attention based on road call history; focus on those identified areas
- Maintain schedule for site visits at least a month in advance
- Develop “library catalogue” of training sources and materials to keep fresh and modern
- Publish for all shops, monthly one-pager of technical tips, and helpful hints
- Assist in FM/FS positions for short periods when there are open positions

Education And Experience
- Undergraduate or trade school degree (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
- 2 to 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance, fleet management, or related experience
- Certification and/or License - Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications, refrigeration licenses, CDL license, or other certifications/licenses may be required
- Working knowledge of DOT and fleet regulatory compliance
- Familiar with maintenance management and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) software
- Deep knowledge and understanding of all truck, trailer, and/or heavy-duty vehicle components and systems
- Able to effectively teach technical materials within classroom and hands-on in-shop environments
- Able to lead and instruct others on the proper and safe procedures
- Able to work across multiple functions and disciplines (union and non-union locations)
- Able to build consensus around initiatives
- Able to interact positively and work effectively with others (interpersonal skills)
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Able to organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals (i.e., organizational skills)
