We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic person to join our nature preschool teaching team! The assistant teacher helps foster a lifelong love for the natural environment through hands-on activities and daily outdoor exploration with our preschool students. This is a part-time position working approximately 32 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Little Acorns school year runs from mid-August through the end of May.
The Dahlem Conservancy is an independent, nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization providing environmental education and outdoor experiences to the residents of south central Michigan. Little Acorns Science and Nature Preschool started in 2013 and is part of our quality environmental education program offerings. The Science and Nature Preschool has provided a solid educational foundation for children ages 3 to 4 by instilling a lifelong love for the natural environment.
Job Title: Assistant Preschool Teacher
Job Type: Part-time (Approximately 32 hours/week)
Compensation: $15.50 – 16.50 per hour, depending on degree and experience
Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, August through May
Responsibilities and requirements:
- Providing a safe and structured environment for children to learn and grow.
- Fostering student's development.
- Participate in daily walks and outdoor excursions with students.
- Collaborate on classroom activities and follow lesson plans.
- Maintain classroom organization and cleanliness.
- Maintaining professional development requirements.
- Must have a minimum of High School Diploma or GED. Must submit to be electronically fingerprinted, and must pass all background checks mandated by the state. Must possess or obtain up to date First Aid, CPR, and BBP certifications.
- On the job training will be provided.
Preferred experience:
- Experience working in a licensed preschool or childcare setting.
- Knowledge of or aptitude/enthusiasm for learning basic natural history/ecology concepts
- Ability to be a creative and flexible team player
- Experience in and comfort in nature
- Planning and organization skills
- Verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Preferred education: Working towards or have an Associates Degree or higher in early childhood education or child development; or Montessori or child development associate credential; or High school diploma or GED with coursework and experience in early childhood education, child development, or a child related field.
