Platform Ownership & Engineering (Python / R / SAS)
- Manage and maintain an enterprise Python distribution (Miniforge/Conda-based) across Linux, Windows, macOS, and AWS, including:
- Version lifecycle management, coordinated rollouts, and vulnerability remediation
- Virtual environment governance for application deployments
- Integration with package security scanning and repository controls
- Support of AWS-based analytics environments (including custom AMIs)
- Oversee an enterprise SAS environment spanning Linux and Windows infrastructure, including:
- Planning and executing major upgrades (server and desktop client)
- Managing connectivity modules and database access (e.g., ODBC-based integrations)
- Troubleshooting performance, connectivity, and mid-tier/web service dependencies
- Coordinating user communications and migration timelines for enterprise changes
- Administer and standardize the R ecosystem across Windows, Linux servers, and AWS, including:
- R/RStudio Server lifecycle management and platform consistency
- Repository/proxy configuration and package governance
- Build toolchains for Windows-based package compilation
- Version control workflow integration for reproducible development
You’ll contribute across a broad analytics and infrastructure stack, which may include:
- Analytics tooling (e.g., SAS, R/RStudio, Python/Conda, SPSS, IDEs, workflow tools)
- Linux and Windows server administration (e.g., RHEL, Ubuntu, Windows Server)
- Shared storage and web service hosting patterns (e.g., enterprise file systems, IIS)
- AWS services supporting analytics workloads (e.g., EC2, S3, Athena), AMI management, tagging compliance, and IaC tooling
- Identity, authentication, and security controls (e.g., AD integration, Kerberos/PAM/SSSD patterns, SSL/TLS, package scanning/proxy solutions)
- Act as the senior technical consultant for the engineering team—guiding architecture decisions, resolving complex platform issues, and setting technical direction.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to plan platform roadmaps, prioritize work, and align upgrades with organizational needs.
- Mentor team members on best practices in platform engineering, server administration, automation, and cross-platform integration.
- Design and maintain monitoring and alerting across a multi-server analytics environment, including:
- Resource monitoring dashboards, email/notification alerting, and proactive incident prevention
- Automated scripts/processes for memory protection, capacity insights, and filesystem health
- Operational runbooks and readiness artifacts for sustained platform stability
- Serve as the Disaster Recovery (DR) Coordinator for the analytics engineering organization:
- Maintain documented recovery procedures and coordinate DR testing/readiness activities
- Align recovery practices with infrastructure teams and business stakeholders
- Own production pipeline signoff governance:
- Enforce structured testing/validation practices for production deployments
- Lead staged rollouts for drivers, platform upgrades, and security patches with strong communication plans to minimize downtime and user impact
- Advocate for responsible adoption of AI-assisted tooling and modern engineering practices to improve productivity, quality, and consistency across analytics workflows.
Required Qualifications:
- 7 years of experience in platform engineering, systems engineering, or analytics infrastructure supporting enterprise users.
- Strong expertise administering and supporting Linux and Windows (bonus for macOS support in managed enterprise environments).
- Hands-on experience managing Python environments at scale (Conda/Miniforge/virtual environments), including upgrades, packaging governance, and security remediation.
- Experience supporting and upgrading enterprise analytics platforms such as SAS and/or R/RStudio Server in a production environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives end-to-end: planning, risk management, testing, release execution, and stakeholder communications.
- Experience with monitoring/alerting, operational tooling, and reliability practices for production systems.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both engineering teams and business stakeholders.
- Experience supporting analytics platforms in regulated or highly governed environments (e.g., insurance, financial services, healthcare).
- AWS experience supporting analytics workloads (e.g., EC2, S3, Athena) and custom AMI management.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) and enterprise tagging/compliance standards.
- Experience with package security scanning, repository proxy tooling (e.g., Nexus patterns), and vulnerability management workflows.
- Experience with authentication and identity integration patterns (e.g., AD integration, Kerberos/SSSD/PAM concepts).
- Exposure to Git-based workflows, CI/CD patterns, and AI-assisted development tools used in engineering environments.
- Prior experience serving as a DR coordinator and/or owning production release governance/signoff.
