About the Role
Our staffing firm is partnering with a leading U.S.-based property & casualty insurance and risk management organization to hire a Technical Engineer for its Enterprise Technology Solutions group. This is a senior, highly visible position serving as the primary technical consultant and platform lead for an Advanced Analytics Engineering team that supports an enterprise analytics environment used by 500 analytics users across multiple business lines.
In this role, you’ll combine deep hands-on engineering expertise (Linux/Windows/macOS and AWS) with stakeholder partnership, technical leadership, governance, and strategic planning. You’ll help modernize analytics workflows, strengthen reliability and security, and ensure enterprise platforms are scalable, consistent, and production-ready.

Job Description
As the Technical Engineer, you will own and evolve the enterprise analytics platform ecosystem, ensuring stable operations, secure upgrades, and excellent user experience for a large analytics community.
Platform Ownership & Engineering (Python / R / SAS)
  • Manage and maintain an enterprise Python distribution (Miniforge/Conda-based) across Linux, Windows, macOS, and AWS, including:
    • Version lifecycle management, coordinated rollouts, and vulnerability remediation
    • Virtual environment governance for application deployments
    • Integration with package security scanning and repository controls
    • Support of AWS-based analytics environments (including custom AMIs)
  • Oversee an enterprise SAS environment spanning Linux and Windows infrastructure, including:
    • Planning and executing major upgrades (server and desktop client)
    • Managing connectivity modules and database access (e.g., ODBC-based integrations)
    • Troubleshooting performance, connectivity, and mid-tier/web service dependencies
    • Coordinating user communications and migration timelines for enterprise changes
  • Administer and standardize the R ecosystem across Windows, Linux servers, and AWS, including:
    • R/RStudio Server lifecycle management and platform consistency
    • Repository/proxy configuration and package governance
    • Build toolchains for Windows-based package compilation
    • Version control workflow integration for reproducible development
Enterprise Technology & Tooling Supported
You’ll contribute across a broad analytics and infrastructure stack, which may include:
  • Analytics tooling (e.g., SAS, R/RStudio, Python/Conda, SPSS, IDEs, workflow tools)
  • Linux and Windows server administration (e.g., RHEL, Ubuntu, Windows Server)
  • Shared storage and web service hosting patterns (e.g., enterprise file systems, IIS)
  • AWS services supporting analytics workloads (e.g., EC2, S3, Athena), AMI management, tagging compliance, and IaC tooling
  • Identity, authentication, and security controls (e.g., AD integration, Kerberos/PAM/SSSD patterns, SSL/TLS, package scanning/proxy solutions)
Technical Leadership & Stakeholder Partnership
  • Act as the senior technical consultant for the engineering team—guiding architecture decisions, resolving complex platform issues, and setting technical direction.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to plan platform roadmaps, prioritize work, and align upgrades with organizational needs.
  • Mentor team members on best practices in platform engineering, server administration, automation, and cross-platform integration.
Reliability, Monitoring, and Operational Excellence
  • Design and maintain monitoring and alerting across a multi-server analytics environment, including:
    • Resource monitoring dashboards, email/notification alerting, and proactive incident prevention
    • Automated scripts/processes for memory protection, capacity insights, and filesystem health
    • Operational runbooks and readiness artifacts for sustained platform stability
Disaster Recovery (DR) & Production Governance
  • Serve as the Disaster Recovery (DR) Coordinator for the analytics engineering organization:
    • Maintain documented recovery procedures and coordinate DR testing/readiness activities
    • Align recovery practices with infrastructure teams and business stakeholders
  • Own production pipeline signoff governance:
    • Enforce structured testing/validation practices for production deployments
    • Lead staged rollouts for drivers, platform upgrades, and security patches with strong communication plans to minimize downtime and user impact
AI Enablement & Workflow Modernization
  • Advocate for responsible adoption of AI-assisted tooling and modern engineering practices to improve productivity, quality, and consistency across analytics workflows.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • 7 years of experience in platform engineering, systems engineering, or analytics infrastructure supporting enterprise users.
  • Strong expertise administering and supporting Linux and Windows (bonus for macOS support in managed enterprise environments).
  • Hands-on experience managing Python environments at scale (Conda/Miniforge/virtual environments), including upgrades, packaging governance, and security remediation.
  • Experience supporting and upgrading enterprise analytics platforms such as SAS and/or R/RStudio Server in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives end-to-end: planning, risk management, testing, release execution, and stakeholder communications.
  • Experience with monitoring/alerting, operational tooling, and reliability practices for production systems.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both engineering teams and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting analytics platforms in regulated or highly governed environments (e.g., insurance, financial services, healthcare).
  • AWS experience supporting analytics workloads (e.g., EC2, S3, Athena) and custom AMI management.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) and enterprise tagging/compliance standards.
  • Experience with package security scanning, repository proxy tooling (e.g., Nexus patterns), and vulnerability management workflows.
  • Experience with authentication and identity integration patterns (e.g., AD integration, Kerberos/SSSD/PAM concepts).
  • Exposure to Git-based workflows, CI/CD patterns, and AI-assisted development tools used in engineering environments.
  • Prior experience serving as a DR coordinator and/or owning production release governance/signoff.
