Job Description

The CFO / Controller will serve as a key financial leader within a growing, project-based construction organization, providing both strategic insight and hands-on oversight of daily accounting operations. Working closely with executive leadership, this role is responsible for ensuring financial integrity, supporting decision-making, and strengthening operational performance. The position requires deep involvement in job costing, work-in-progress reporting, cash flow management, and financial analysis, while also leading accounting teams and continuously improving financial systems and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Partner directly with the President and Vice President to support financial strategy and day-to-day operations
• Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, payroll, taxes, and financial reporting
• Manage job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and variance analysis
• Monitor project budgets and analyze actual costs versus estimates to support margin management
• Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts aligned with project timelines and backlog
• Provide financial analysis related to backlog, margins, and overall project performance
• Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Accounting staff
• Implement and improve internal controls, financial processes, and system efficiencies
• Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for leadership and operations
  
  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Strong working knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition
• Extensive experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management
• Proven ability to analyze and interpret financial data and communicate insights clearly
• Hands-on leadership style with strong attention to detail
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the construction or project-based industry
• ERP system experience; familiarity with Sage 300 or similar platforms is a plus
• Demonstrated success implementing or improving internal financial controls
• Experience supporting senior leadership in a growing or evolving organization
