Job Overview

We are seeking a successful Crew Chief who consistently delivers accurate, high-quality survey work while leading a safe, productive, and efficient field crew. They effectively plan daily field activities, proactively solve problems, and ensure projects are completed on schedule while meeting company quality standards.

Minimum Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading a survey field crew as a Crew Chief.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive land surveying experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in both boundary and construction surveying, with the ability to work confidently in each environment.
  • Experience operating surveying GPS, robotic total stations, and conventional surveying equipment.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of land surveying principles, field procedures, and survey mathematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, plats, deeds, legal descriptions, and other surveying related documents.
  • Ability to collect, verify, and document accurate field data while maintaining high standards of quality and precision.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or the demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, critical thinking, and problem solving skills in the field.

Leadership & Communication

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a two- or three person survey crew.
  • Ability to train, guide, and support less experienced field personnel while fostering a productive team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to professionally represent the company when interacting with clients, contractors, utility representatives, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively coordinating with project managers and office staff.

Professionalism

  • Close attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, quality work.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and accountable.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of field surveying in varying weather and terrain.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CST certification (Level II or higher preferred).
  • LSIT certification.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience using Leica GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Experience performing field-to-finish workflows.
  • Experience with commercial, municipal, transportation, or construction layout.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new surveying technology, equipment, and software.

  • Interpreting plans, legal documents, and field conditions to make sound decisions and resolve challenges independently.
  • Mentoring and developing less experienced crew members by sharing knowledge and reinforcing best surveying practices.
  • Representing the company with professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Embracing new technology, equipment, and workflows to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Taking ownership of assigned projects by planning, managing time effectively, and consistently delivering reliable results.
