Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Crew Chief role based in Queen Creek, AZ. The Crew Chief leads a field survey crew, organizing daily assignments, coordinating with project managers, and ensuring that all field work meets safety, accuracy, and quality standards. Responsibilities include operating surveying instruments and equipment, collecting and verifying field data, setting control points and markers, and documenting site conditions. The role involves interpreting plans and project requirements, communicating progress and issues to office staff, and maintaining equipment and vehicles in good working order. The Crew Chief is expected to mentor crew members, promote safe work practices, and support timely completion of a variety of surveying projects.
Qualifications
- Field surveying and data collection: Ability to perform boundary, topographic, construction, and layout surveys; skill in collecting accurate measurements and field notes.
- Survey equipment and technology: Proficiency with total stations, GPS/GNSS, levels, data collectors, and related software used in modern surveying practice.
- Plan interpretation and project coordination: Ability to read and understand survey plats, construction plans, and specifications, and coordinate field activities with office staff and project managers.
- Leadership and communication: Experience leading field crews, assigning tasks, training team members, and communicating clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
- Safety and compliance: Knowledge of and adherence to field safety practices, company policies, and relevant surveying standards and regulations.
- Education and experience: Prior experience as a Crew Chief or senior survey technician; high school diploma or equivalent required, additional technical coursework in surveying or civil engineering preferred.
- Licensure and certifications: Possession of or progress toward surveying-related certifications is beneficial; valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
- Physical and work environment readiness: Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions, walk and stand for extended periods, and lift and carry equipment as needed.
