The successful candidate will work closely with engineering staff, IT Personnel, SCADA vendors, and utility operations teams to protect critical water system infrastructure and maintain regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the designated cybersecurity lead responsible for maintaining and overseeing water infrastructure system’s cybersecurity program, ensuring policies and procedures comply with applicable NYSDOH regulations
- Conduct regular security assessments, threat modeling, and vulnerability scans across water plant systems, pumping stations, and IoT monitoring devices and provide
- Develop, maintain, and periodically update incident response, business continuity, and disaster recovery plans for water operations, and lead tabletop exercises for plant operators.
- Coordinate cybersecurity incident response activities, including regulatory reporting, post-incident investigations, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Impellent and support secure remote access to solutions for external engineering vendors, integrators, and internal operations using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and jump servers.
- Ensure all critical water infrastructure aligns with applicable cybersecurity regulations, standards, and industry frameworks.
- Act as the primary liaison between IT security teams and water plant operators to execute system updates without jeopardizing public safety or water uptime.
- Support preparation and compilation of cybersecurity-related reports, assessments, and emergency response documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely related field.
- 0-5 years of professional experience in cybersecurity, preferred with a distinct focus on Operational Technology (OT) or Industrial Control Systems (ICS)
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, risk management, and systems protection
- Experience conducting vulnerability assessments and risk analysis
- Strong understanding of network architecture, security monitoring, and incident response
- Excellent project management and communication skills
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external vendors
