- Bachelor's degree from a recognized, accredited college or university, with additional graduate study or a Master’s degree preferred;
- Valid Texas teacher’s certificate with an ESL Endorsement;
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as an ESL teacher; "Newcomer" experience preferred.
- Demonstrated skill in leading, motivating, coaching and cooperating with other teachers;
- Successful experience with at-risk students and flexible regrouping language arts;
- Communication skills in Spanish or other languages preferred

Essential Functions
- To work with Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Special Populations to support the New Arrival Center (NAC) in accelerating the acquisition of the English language.
- To supervise the placement of all students in the NAC.
- To assist teachers in the NAC with implementing the Language Acquisition Curriculum.
- To track the progress of current and former NAC students.
- To monitor the NAC with data analysis.
- To mentor and observe NAC teachers and provide feedback.
- To model lessons in the classroom.
- To provide on-going staff development training and assistance to NAC teachers in the implementation of instructional strategies in the classroom.
- To provide new NAC teacher and paraprofessional training.
- To work with Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Special Populations on curriculum development.
- To work on assessment instruments for the NAC.
- To assist Director and Coordinators on staff development days.
- To work with ESL contacts to provide and coordinate materials.
- To assist with the implementation and supervision of summer school programs.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
