QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited college or university; Master's degree preferred;
  2. Texas teacher certification in elementary or secondary education and special education; administrator certification preferred;
  3. Minimum of four (4) years of successful experience as a certified special education teacher;
  4. Successful experience designing and implementing behavioral interventions based on the functions of behavior;
  5. Successful experience working with students with autism spectrum disorders;
  6. Demonstrated skill in leading, motivating, coaching and consulting with others;
  7. Demonstrated skills in collaborating with parents and agency representatives regarding school-home behavioral programming;
  8. Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners;
  9. Certified in nonviolent crisis intervention procedures and certified as a trainer or willingness to become a certified trainer;
  10. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
  11. Visionary leadership to work with faculties, families and communities of the 21st century;
  12. Ability to work flexible hours and to maintain a flexible schedule.
  13. Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 193 days

 

SALARY:

 

$66,627/IA-3 

Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Train and work with teachers and campus personnel to design, develop and implement behavioral intervention plans and classroom management strategies for students with significant disabilities and behavioral challenges.
  2. Train staff in approved nonviolent crisis intervention procedures and monitor implementation of these procedures.
  3. Compile and maintain all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents as required.
  4. Work collaboratively with parents and other stakeholders to ensure success in meeting students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  5. Observe students in school, home and community environments and consult with school staff and parents to teach socially acceptable behaviors to students based on individual needs.
  6. Maintain confidentiality and comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and the local board.
  7. Assist with the coordination of the discipline management program.
  8. Assist with the coordination of the campus emergency operations plan, including coordination of required crisis drills.
  9. Assist in assignment of classroom personnel to ensure adequate staffing to meet the instructional and behavioral programming needs of the students.
  10. Remain abreast of research and best practices for behavioral intervention for students with autism spectrum disorders.
  11. Perform any other duties assigned by the Director/Principal.
  12. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.

Physical Demands: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling

and twisting.

Lifting: Regular lifting and carrying; may lift and move stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks,

and other classroom equipment.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; Must be

willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate.

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise.
