Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented OSP Design Specialist to join our team and drive the development of outdoor plant (OSP) infrastructure for telecommunication networks. Duties
- Develop detailed OSP designs using schematics, technical drawings, and computer-aided design (CAD) software, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with field teams to gather site-specific data, including terrain, existing utilities, and access points, to inform accurate design layouts.
- Plan and specify the installation of fiber splicing points, cable routes, conduit pathways, manholes, handholes, and other infrastructure components.
- Coordinate with construction teams during project execution to ensure designs are implemented correctly and efficiently.
- Conduct site visits for design validation, troubleshooting issues related to climbing poles or towers, trenching, or heavy equipment operation.
- Prepare comprehensive documentation including schematics, material lists, permits, and project timelines for approval and procurement purposes.
- Assist in the selection and specification of equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, hand tools, and other construction gear necessary for installation activities.
- Support network infrastructure planning by integrating low voltage systems like LAN (Local Area Network), Ethernet cabling, telephony systems, and electrical components into overall designs.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in field service roles related to telecommunication or construction industries with hands-on knowledge of heavy equipment operation including bucket trucks and power tools.
- Strong understanding of fiber splicing techniques and cabling practices for telecommunication networks.
- Familiarity with schematics interpretation, computer networking concepts (LAN/WAN), Ethernet wiring standards, and low voltage electrical systems.
- Ability to climb poles or towers safely while adhering to safety protocols; experience with climbing gear is preferred.
- Knowledge of network infrastructure components such as switches, routers, fiber optics connectors, and telephony hardware.
- Skilled in using hand tools and power tools required for construction activities; experience operating heavy machinery is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues related to electrical systems or network connectivity on-site.

Cyient Inc. currently has an opening for an Outside Plant (OSP) Designer, responsible for engineering OSP Fiber, Copper and BAU work orders. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, intelligent individuals with previous OSP engineering and Field data collection experience. Copper experience is strongly encouraged. Ideal candidates should have previous experience designing multiple OSP telecom projects simultaneously, including (but not limited to) FTTP and BAU projects, and be experienced with client software systems including ARAMIS, WALDO, and LFACS.
Must be able to self-manage their workload and work schedule.
