Chemical Engineer – Aerospace Manufacturing Support

About the Role
Cyient is seeking a skilled Chemical Engineer to support critical manufacturing and repair operations at the North Berwick (NBEC) facility. In this role, you’ll apply your expertise in special processes—including coatings, surface treatments, and thermal processing—to ensure all hardware meets rigorous aerospace safety and quality standards. You will collaborate closely with P&W engineering, quality, and operations teams, playing a key role in production readiness and continuous improvement for multiple engine platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Support chemical, coating, and metallurgical processes for Pratt & Whitney engine components manufactured in North Berwick.
- Oversee and troubleshoot HVLP (High Velocity Low Pressure) plasma spray coating operations to ensure proper adhesion, surface finish, and coating integrity.
- Lead and support shot peening processes, ensuring full compliance with P&W specifications and NADCAP requirements.
- Manage heat treat operations, including furnace qualification, cycle optimization, and process documentation.
- Create and update process documentation—including work instructions, engineering specifications, and manufacturing routings—for special process activities.
- Perform root-cause analysis (RCA) and drive corrective/preventive action (CAPA) initiatives for nonconforming material or process deviations.
- Partner with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, NDT, and Materials Engineering to resolve production and quality challenges.
- Support internal, customer, and NADCAP audits for coatings, heat treat, and shot peen.
- Analyze process performance metrics, identify trends, and implement improvements to reduce scrap, improve first-time quality, and stabilize production.
- Provide floor-level technical support to operators, inspectors, and production team leads.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
- 2 years of experience in aerospace, precision manufacturing, materials processing, or special process operations.
- Hands-on experience with the following processes is required:
- HVLP plasma spray coating
- Shot peen
- Heat treat
- Strong understanding of metallic materials, coatings, surface treatments, and thermal processing.
- Familiarity with NADCAP, AS9100, or other aerospace quality systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and process procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; SAP, Solumina, or MES experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, and quality teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Pratt & Whitney specifications or prior exposure to NBEC processes.
- NADCAP audit participation or certification in heat treat, coatings, or shot peen.
- Experience with chemical stripping, surface preparation, or corrosion treatment processes.
- Lean/continuous improvement training such as Green Belt or RCCA.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
