Title: Public Works Senior Engineer

Location: Salisbury, NC

Salary: $76k-$116k benefits

Requirements: Professional Engineer or EIT preferred, 4 years in municipal infrastructure, municipal drainage and street maintenance, Civil engineering, team or department leadership

Position Overview

We are a thriving municipality between the NC metropolis regions of Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte. Due to our area's population growth, our Public Works and utilities teams are growing as well. We are now seeking a dynamic Public Works Senior Engineer to oversee and manage public infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role is critical in maintaining and enhancing community infrastructure, including stormwater management, street maintenance, and overall project execution while ensuring budget adherence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage public works infrastructure projects from conception to completion.
• Oversee stormwater management initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
• Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring financial accountability and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct site inspections to monitor project progress and compliance with specifications.
• Supervise engineering staff and provide training and support as necessary.
• Prepare and review project documentation, including reports, plans, and specifications.
• Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure adherence to codes and regulations.
• Manage contractor relationships and oversee contractor performance on projects, conduct site inspections, certify completed work.
• Conduct data analysis to inform project planning and execution.
• Represent the Public Works department in formal meetings, on various boards and presentations to stakeholders.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT license with plans to pursue PE.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in public works or civil engineering with some time spent in supervisory or management.
• Strong knowledge of public works infrastructure and related project management practices.
• Experience with stormwater management, right-of-way and street maintenance projects.
• Proficiency in CAD and GIS software.
• Understanding of federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and timelines.
