What You'll Do
- Own substantial portions of the technical platform (web application, API server, or large-scale data pipeline), including planning, development, deployment, and operational support
- Design, build, and test distributed applications and microservices
- Communicate estimates, architecture decisions, and implementation plans clearly, collaborating across the engineering team
- Build and maintain solutions aligned with enterprise engineering standards and best practices
- Utilize modern GenAI capabilities - semantic search, workflow orchestration, LLM gateways, retrieval workflows, and real-time prompt/tooling systems
- 5 years of backend or data engineering experience in fast-paced, high-performance environments
- Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, and modern software engineering principles
- Proficiency in Java, Python, or Scala
- Experience designing scalable, high-performance systems and creating benchmarks for load, throughput, and reliability
- Experience developing API/interface contracts across services, applications, and third-party vendors
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and big data tools such as Databricks, PySpark, Spark, or Hadoop
- Familiarity with distributed storage systems and large-scale data processing
- Strong experience with CI/CD, automation, and DevOps pipelines; experience with AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or Ansible is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Early engineering hire at an emerging startup
- Backend services built in Scala; frontend built with JavaScript/React
- Deployed via AWS using Docker containers and Infrastructure-as-Code
- Data and ML pipelines built on Spark
