A growing federal and public-sector general contractor is seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to oversee federal construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role supports a strong pipeline of government work, including federal, state, and local projects, with an emphasis on planning, coordination, and execution.
Relocation assistance is available for qualified out-of-state candidates, making this an excellent opportunity for Project Managers looking to transition into the Chicago market or expand their federal project experience.
What You Will Do
- Manage federal and public-sector construction projects from award through closeout
- Oversee all technical disciplines including civil, architectural, MEP, and finish scopes
- Ensure compliance with federal contracts, specifications, safety standards, and codes
- Develop, maintain, and update project schedules in coordination with field teams
- Manage subcontractor procurement, bid reviews, and contract execution
- Review submittals, RFIs, change orders, and pay applications
- Coordinate inspections, permitting, and commissioning activities
- Serve as the primary point of contact with owners, inspectors, and consultants
- Track budgets, manage cost controls, and forecast project outcomes
- Support preconstruction planning and proposal efforts as needed
What We Are Looking For
- 5 years of experience as a Project Manager in commercial, public, or federal construction
- Experience managing government-funded projects (federal preferred)
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods and contract administration
- Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, and subcontractors
- Familiarity with regulated jobsite environments and compliance requirements
- Proficiency with Procore and standard scheduling tools
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
- OSHA 30 required; PMP or similar certification is a plus
