Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer with strong MasterCAM and CNC programming expertise to support high-precision production for aerospace and defense components. The role focuses on developing and optimizing CAM programs, validating CNC toolpaths and machine processes, ensuring AS9100-compliant documentation and process control, and collaborating with production, quality and design teams to deliver repeatable, efficient manufacturing solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, create and optimize CNC programs in MasterCAM for 2- to 5-axis machining centers and CNC lathes.
- Generate and validate G-code, post-process programs and configure post-processors for target controllers (Fanuc/Heidenhain/Haas, etc.).
- Perform toolpath simulation and verification (e.g., Vericut) to ensure collision-free, efficient machining sequences and accurate surface finishes.
- Define and optimize feeds, speeds, cutting strategies, tooling selection and toolpath optimization for aluminum, steel and titanium components.
- Prepare work instructions, setup sheets, tooling lists and inspection requirements to support first articles and production runs.
- Support CNC machine setup, fixture and tooling design, and hands-on problem solving during process qualification and troubleshooting.
- Implement and maintain AS9100-compliant process documentation, control plans and non-conformance/ corrective action activities in the QMS.
- Collaborate with design/engineering on manufacturability reviews, drawing interpretation (blueprint reading, GD&T) and design-for-manufacturing improvements.
- Integrate CAM/CNC processes with DNC, ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling to improve part flow and traceability.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma) to reduce cycle time, scrap and cost while increasing machine utilization and quality.
Qualifications Required:
- AS or BS in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered
- 5 years of hands-on experience as a Manufacturing/CAM Engineer with demonstrated proficiency in CNC Programming and MasterCAM.
- Practical experience and working knowledge of AS9100 requirements and implementing AS9100-compliant manufacturing processes and documentation.
- Strong understanding of CNC machine setup, tooling and fixtures, blueprint reading, GD&T and metrology/CMM inspection requirements.
- Proven ability to perform CAM simulation and verification, optimize feeds and speeds and create robust, production-ready toolpaths.
Not required but Nice to Have:
- Nice-to-have: 5-Axis machining, 3-axis & 4-axis milling, CNC turning/lathe, advanced G-code knowledge, CAM/CAD integration, SolidWorks and AutoCAD, post-processor configuration, Vericut or equivalent simulation, tooling and fixture design, feeds & speeds optimization, cutting tool selection, machining strategies for aluminum/steel/titanium, DNC and ERP/MRP integration, Fanuc/Heidenhain/Haas controller familiarity, quality control/QMS experience, ISO9001, Lean Manufacturing/Kaizen/Six Sigma, aerospace/defense manufacturing experience
