Position Overview
The Civil Litigation Attorney will handle matters from initial investigation through resolution, including discovery, motion practice, alternative dispute resolution, and trial preparation. The role offers hands on litigation experience, direct client contact, and the opportunity to work alongside accomplished trial lawyers.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse civil litigation caseload, including commercial disputes, contract claims, employment litigation, tort matters, and related civil proceedings
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and other court filings
- Handle depositions, attend hearings, participate in mediations and arbitrations, and assist with trial preparation and trial proceedings
- Develop litigation strategy, evaluate risk, and provide practical, solution oriented advice to clients
- Oversee all phases of discovery, including written discovery, document review, and expert coordination
- Negotiate settlements and pursue efficient resolution strategies when appropriate
- Collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to manage deadlines and client expectations
- Maintain accurate case files, time records, and compliance with court rules and ethical standards
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active bar admission in the jurisdiction of practice
- 3 to 5 or more years of civil litigation experience in a law firm, government, or similar legal setting
- Experience with motion practice, discovery management, and depositions; trial experience preferred
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Confident oral advocacy and ability to represent clients in court and ADR settings
- Ability to manage multiple matters independently while contributing as a team member
- High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and client service focus
- Comfort with litigation technology and case management systems; e discovery experience is a plus
Practice Experience That Translates Well
Backgrounds in commercial litigation, employment law, personal injury defense, insurance litigation, or professional liability are particularly well suited to this role.
