Lead AI/ML Engineer

Remote, US Only | $170K to $200K base plus bonus and equity

We are partnering with a next-generation fintech infrastructure company to hire a Lead AI Engineer. This is a founding leadership role where you will guide the technical direction for AI and machine learning across the company while remaining hands-on with architecture and implementation. You will lead and mentor two existing machine learning engineers and work closely with product, engineering, and risk teams to deliver production-grade AI systems.

This role is ideal for a senior or staff-level engineer who wants to own strategy, architecture, and delivery while continuing to write code and build systems directly.

What You Will Do

• Lead the design and development of production machine learning and generative AI systems for fraud detection, risk scoring, onboarding, and internal automation
• Provide technical leadership and day-to-day guidance for two machine learning engineers including architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical direction
• Architect LLM powered workflows, retrieval augmented generation pipelines, vector search components, and risk modeling services
• Work with structured and unstructured data across onboarding, identity, document verification, and payments systems
• Own the complete machine learning lifecycle including prototyping, data pipelines, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement
• Establish best practices for model governance, observability, drift detection, and performance measurement
• Evaluate and integrate third party AI and identity solutions including document verification and anomaly detection technologies
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and risk leadership to identify and prioritize high impact AI opportunities
• Influence long term platform architecture as the foundational AI leader
  
  

What You Bring

• 5 to 10 or more years building and deploying AI and machine learning systems in production environments
• Strong Python skills and deep experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit learn
• Experience with financial, transactional, risk scoring, or other complex structured datasets
• Experience shipping models with CI/CD pipelines, model versioning, monitoring, and observability tools
• Strong architectural skills and the ability to drive technical decisions at both strategic and implementation levels
• Experience mentoring or guiding other engineers in a technical leadership capacity
• Ability to work cross functionally and influence direction without formal authority
• Comfortable operating in a fast moving startup environment
  
  

Nice to Have

• Experience in fintech, payments, fraud, underwriting, or other risk focused modeling
• Familiarity with LangChain, Hugging Face, LlamaIndex, or vector databases
• Experience building retrieval augmented generation systems, LLM APIs, prompt based workflows, or embedding pipelines
• Knowledge of identity verification workflows, onboarding systems, or KYC and KYB processes
• Experience with document intelligence, OCR, or entity extraction pipelines

• $170K to $200K base salary plus performance bonus
