Estimator
Location: Milwaukee, WI (Onsite)
Salary: $65,000 - $90,000 (Experience Dependent)
Position Overview
We are seeking an Estimator to support custom fabrication and mechanical construction projects through the preparation of accurate, competitive, and detailed cost estimates. This role is responsible for analyzing project documentation, evaluating labor and material requirements, soliciting vendor pricing, and developing proposals that support successful project execution from bid through turnover.
The ideal candidate has experience within fabrication, manufacturing, mechanical construction, or industrial environments and is comfortable reviewing drawings, performing takeoffs, and collaborating with sales, operations, project management, and production teams. This individual will play a key role in ensuring estimates are both accurate and competitive while helping drive profitable project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
- Review project specifications, drawings, bid documents, and customer requirements
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop detailed labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates
- Utilize estimating software and internal pricing tools to prepare competitive project bids
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations
- Collaborate with sales, project management, engineering, and production teams throughout the bidding process
- Prepare bid packages, proposals, and supporting project documentation
- Participate in project turnover meetings and support project startup activities
- Track bid opportunities and maintain estimating databases and records
- Analyze actual project costs versus estimated costs and identify areas for improvement
- Support continuous improvement of estimating systems, procedures, and pricing methodologies
- Communicate with customers regarding bid requests, project scope, and estimate clarifications
- Assist project managers with forecasting and cost-related project analysis
Qualifications
- 3 years of estimating experience within fabrication, manufacturing, industrial construction, or mechanical contracting environments
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs and cost analysis
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating software platforms
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High school diploma or GED required
Preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Experience within custom fabrication, sheet metal, piping, manufacturing, or industrial construction
- Knowledge of fabrication processes, materials, and production workflows
- Experience with estimating software such as QuickPen, Autodesk products, Tekla PowerFab, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with vendor sourcing, subcontractor relationships, and procurement processes
- Understanding of project management and construction operations best practices
- Experience supporting commercial, industrial, manufacturing, or institutional projects
