Position Overview

The Controls Systems Engineering Supervisor will lead a small team in the development of advanced electronic control systems for commercial vehicle applications, including axle, suspension, and braking solutions. This role is responsible for supervising and mentoring a highly technical team while providing deep technical expertise in embedded controls, system architecture, validation, and standards compliance. The position plays a critical role in defining product strategy, ensuring system safety and reliability, and delivering integrated hardware, software, and calibration solutions throughout a structured product development lifecycle. This is a "hands-on" supervisor role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, lead, and develop a team responsible for designing and executing electronic control system strategies.
  • Provide technical leadership in embedded controller programming, operator interface design, system integration, and validation of hardware and software solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement through team development, process optimization, and elimination of inefficiencies.
  • Develop technical specifications for commercial vehicle axle, suspension, and brake control systems.
  • Manage the delivery of integrated hardware, software, and calibration solutions in alignment with a structured phase-gate development process.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, procedures, performance metrics, and documentation requirements for electrical and controls engineering.
  • Lead Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) activities for control systems in intended vehicle applications.
  • Oversee system-level validation testing and troubleshooting across multiple development stages.
  • Guide the development of advanced embedded sensing and control systems, such as load-based suspension control, tire pressure management, and auxiliary vehicle systems.
  • Develop, approve, and execute comprehensive Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R), coordinating internal teams and external partners for validation testing at SIL, HIL, component, and vehicle levels.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for electronic controls, supporting organizational leadership on product strategy, sourcing decisions, and future technology initiatives.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for embedded controllers, safety-critical systems, and control architectures.
  • Oversee development and application of software validation tools, including model-based development environments such as MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving industry standards, technologies, and best practices through professional networks and industry engagement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in vehicle or embedded control systems development, including hands-on technical contributions.
  • Prior experience managing and mentoring teams of technical professionals.
  • Strong background in automotive or commercial vehicle control systems, including ABS, electronic braking, stability control, or related systems. (will also consider AeroSpace experience as well)
  • Proven expertise in embedded software development using C or model-based design methodologies.
  • Experience developing and validating safety-critical embedded systems.
  • Hands-on knowledge of SIL, HIL, component-level, and full-vehicle validation methodologies.
  • Proficiency with data acquisition, simulation, and analysis tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, dSPACE, and CAN analysis software.
  • Deep understanding of vehicle electrical architectures and communications protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, Ethernet, J1939).
  • Familiarity with wireless communication protocols such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, RF, or similar technologies.
  • Experience leading DFMEA initiatives and applying structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry standards and functional safety guidelines.
  • ISO 26262 & ISO 16750
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation (Salary $135K - $150K)
  • Full Management Level Relocation Package (if needed)
