Associate Attorney
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Associate Attorney to join our firms civil litigation team with an emphasis on workers' compensation and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will provide client counseling, draft and negotiate contracts, manage caseloads from intake through resolution, and represent clients in hearings and trials. This role requires strong legal writing, persuasive advocacy, and the ability to handle multiple matters efficiently while maintaining excellent client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise and counsel clients on civil law matters, including workers' compensation and regulatory compliance issues.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, settlement agreements, and other transactional documents.
- Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and other litigation documents with clear, persuasive legal writing.
- Represent clients at hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials before administrative bodies and courts.
- Manage a diverse caseload from intake through disposition, including calendaring, case strategy, document management, and client communication.
- Conduct legal research and stay current on statutory and case law developments affecting clients matters.
- Negotiate favorable outcomes in settlements and administrative proceedings while protecting client interests.
- Coordinate with paralegals, experts, and outside counsel to prepare for hearings and trials and to ensure timely case progression.
- Ensure firm and client compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical obligations.
- Maintain accurate billing records, case files, and regular status updates to supervising partners and clients.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in Oregon State Bar.
- 1 years of litigation experience, with demonstrated exposure to civil law and workers' compensation matters preferred.
- Proven experience in client counseling, contract drafting, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills, including drafting motions, briefs, and settlement agreements.
- Strong case management skills with the ability to prioritize deadlines and manage multiple matters simultaneously.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance issues and experience advising clients on compliance-related risks.
- High professional and ethical standards, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a client-focused approach.
- Proficiency with case management software, e-filing systems, and standard office productivity tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team; willingness to travel to hearings or client meetings as needed.
