Position Overview
The Production Supervisor leads day-to-day manufacturing operations to meet safety, quality, and production targets. You will supervise production teams across shifts, manage scheduling and capacity, coordinate material and inventory planning via MRP/ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and drive continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma and 5S methodologies. This role requires hands-on problem solving with equipment (CNC, PLCs, robotics, conveyors), enforcing GMP/ISO and OSHA standards, and collaborating with maintenance, quality, and planning to optimize throughput and product quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coach production teams across shifts, ensuring staffing, training, performance management, and adherence to SOPs.
- Develop and execute production and shift schedules, including capacity planning and shift scheduling to meet customer demand and on-time delivery targets.
- Operate and manage MRP/ERP processes (including SAP) for production orders, Bill of Materials (BOM) control, and materials planning to minimize stockouts and excess inventory.
- Maintain quality control through Statistical Process Control (SPC), in-line inspections, and adherence to GMP, ISO standards and food safety requirements when applicable.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen) to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and increase first-pass yield.
- Ensure workplace safety and regulatory compliance (OSHA), conduct risk assessments, and implement corrective actions and safety training.
- Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis for equipment faults and process deviations; coordinate with maintenance for repairs, TPM activities, and calibration.
- Oversee operation and integration of industrial automation systems including PLCs, robotics, CNC machines, conveyor systems and tooling to maximize uptime.
- Manage packaging, assembly line balancing and shop floor control to optimize flow and reduce bottlenecks.
- Control inventory accuracy and participate in cycle counts, implement inventory management best practices and liaise with purchasing for material replenishment.
- Maintain production documentation, update SOPs, prepare production reports and KPIs, and communicate results to operations leadership.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance and Supply Chain to launch new products, process changes and continuous improvement projects.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelors degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology or equivalent experience.
- 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in food manufacturing is a plus.
- Proven experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies, 5S and Kaizen continuous improvement tools (Green Belt preferred).
- Hands-on experience with MRP/ERP systems (experience with SAP highly desirable), BOM management and materials planning.
- Strong understanding of Quality Control, SPC, GMP and ISO standards with demonstrated ability to implement and maintain compliance.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and proven track record in safety management and incident reduction.
- Skilled in root cause analysis, troubleshooting mechanical and automation systems, and coordinating TPM and preventive maintenance.
- Familiarity with CNC machine operation, PLC programming/interaction, robotics, industrial automation and conveyor systems.
- Experience with production scheduling, capacity planning, inventory management, packaging operations and assembly line balancing.
- Proficiency with shop floor control systems, SOP creation, documentation and production reporting; familiarity with AutoCAD/CAD is a plus.
- Strong leadership, communication and team development skills, with ability to train frontline staff and drive performance.
- Flexible to work rotating shifts as required and able to respond to production emergencies; valid forklift and other certifications preferred.
