Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled, hands-on CNC Operator / Setup Person to join our team. In this role, your primary responsibility will be setting up and running orders based on both verbal and written instructions.
● Pay Rate: $23.00 / hour (Starting rate; negotiable depending on experience)
● Position Type: Full-Time
● Evaluation: Candidates will be expected to practically demonstrate their ability to meet the technical requirements during the interview process.
Key Responsibilities
● Setup & Operation: Independently set up CNC Mills and/or Lathes. Execute production orders accurately by following detailed written blueprints, routing sheets, and verbal instructions.
● Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools to ensure they meet exact specifications.
● Shop Support: Operate standard manual shop equipment and power tools as needed to support production.
● Maintenance & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all shop safety protocols.
Job Requirements
● Minimum 1 year of dedicated experience specifically setting up and operating CNC Mills and/or CNC Lathes.
● Setup & Workholding Capabilities: Must be proficient in setting up the machine from scratch. This includes calibrating and zeroing out vise(s) to the table using dial indicators (tramming), setting up machining fixtures/jigs, and utilizing various other workholding techniques.
● Tooling & Offsets: Proven ability to select, load, and touch off tools to set tool length and work coordinate offsets (like G54). Competent in monitoring tool wear and making necessary wear offset adjustments at the controller.
● Blueprint & Inspection Literacy: Ability to read technical blueprints and engineering drawings. Proficiency using precision tools like calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges to verify part quality. Must be able to accurately read a tape measure down to the fraction.
● Math Skills: Solid understanding of basic shop arithmetic, including working comfortably with fractions, decimals, and ratios.
● Shop Tools: Practical knowledge and experience operating basic manual shop equipment (e.g., drill press, grinders, air tools, etc.).
● Communication: Ability to understand, follow, and execute both verbal and written instructions seamlessly.
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience specifically operating or setting up HAAS machines.
● Familiarity with basic CNC programming language (G-code).
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
● Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move shop materials as required.
● Comfortable working in an active manufacturing/shop environment.
