Position Summary
The Delivery Driver is a member of the CHE delivery team, responsible for the accurate, safe, and timely delivery of materials from our Garner yard to job sites across the region. This role owns the pre-departure verification, loading, and on-site placement of materials, ensures clear documentation of every delivery, and represents
Custom Home Exteriors professionally in the field. Working closely with the Inventory & Millwork Manager, the warehouse team, and the field team, the Delivery Driver keeps materials moving so projects stay on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Deliveries & Loading
- Ensure all materials are loaded onto the delivery truck by the end of each workday for the following day's deliveries
- Perform pre-departure checks each morning to confirm all items are loaded and accounted for
- Ensure all loads are secured appropriately before leaving the yard
- Promptly communicate any delivery issues or concerns to the Inventory & Millwork Manager
- Place materials in safe, appropriate locations at job sites (e.g., porch or garage) to avoid damage or theft
- When uncertain about a delivery drop location, contact the Field Manager or supervisor for direction
- Make trips to CHE's outer-market storage locations approximately every other week to deliver, retrieve, and replenish materials
Documentation &; Inventory Accuracy
- Take clear, detailed photos of all delivered materials, including pick tickets and permit boxes
- Use RF-Smart (handheld inventory system) to record all inventory transactions accurately
- Verify pick tickets against loaded materials before each delivery
Professionalism & Field Coordination
- Represent CHE professionally and positively in all field interactions
- Coordinate with the field team to confirm delivery timing, location, and any special instructions
- Communicate proactively about delays, route changes, or material concerns
Safety, Compliance & Vehicle Care
- Adhere to all OSHA and PHBP safety standards; use safety glasses, hearing protection, and N95 masks as required
- Follow all local, state, and federal laws and regulations for driving and parking
- Maintain delivery vehicles to CHE's standards for cleanliness and operational readiness
- Maintain general cleanliness of the yard daily
- Ensure dumpsters and trash receptacles are emptied regularly
- Ensure materials and waste are not left outside the secured gate area
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR)
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
- Ability to safely operate a delivery truck and follow all traffic laws
- Ability to safely lift, carry, and handle materials of varying sizes and weights
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
- Ability to manage time and routes independently
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
- Willingness to learn, take ownership, and grow within the role
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a delivery driver, especially in construction or building materials
- Forklift experience and certification (or willingness to be trained and certified)
- Basic computer literacy, including comfort with GPS navigation and inventory scanning software (e.g.,RF-Smart)
- Comfort using smartphone-based documentation (photos, pick tickets, communication apps)
- Basic knowledge of building materials and construction site logistics
- Familiarity with the Triangle area and surrounding NC roads
Physical Requirements &; Work Environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to climb in and out of a delivery truck multiple times daily
- Ability to drive for extended periods and remain alert behind the wheel
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and climb during loading, unloading, and yard work
- Work is performed in a mix of cab and outdoor (yard, job site) environments with exposure to varying weather conditions
- PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, N95 mask, work boots) required during loading and at job sites as designated.
