A metal grinder operates hand-held and stationary machinery to smooth, shape, polish, and deburr metal workpieces. They read blueprints, maintain equipment, and inspect finished parts to ensure compliance with strict engineering specifications and quality control standards.
- Tool Operation: Set up and safely operate air-powered grinders, hand grinders, and stationary grinding machines.
- Material Preparation: Remove excess material, burrs, fins, and rough spots from castings, welded assemblies, or raw steel parts.
- Quality Control: Measure finished parts using precision instruments like micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify tolerances.
- Equipment Maintenance: Change worn abrasive wheels, lubricate machinery, and clean the work environment regularly.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring wheel guards are functioning.
