District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary Purpose: To direct and manage the custodial services of the district to ensure that students are provided an appropriate learning environment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree Preferred with training in Management skills
Experience/Knowledge: Experience with budget and personnel management.
Other qualifications as deemed acceptable or necessary by the Board.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Administer custodial schedules and procedures for all schools and facilities of the district.
- Assist principals in evaluation of head custodians and assists them in addressing staff issues.
- Select the custodial supplies and equipment to be used and maintains an appropriate inventory.
- Maintain schedules for each individual building and monitor that supplies are available.
- Conduct custodial staff meetings.
- Coordinate and supervise summer school and summer cleaning projects to ensure that buildings are maintained and ready for the next school year.
- Supervise the custodial staff in cleaning and waxing floors.
- Conduct building walkthroughs twice a week and more often if necessary, and confers with principals regarding custodial work.
- Inspect completed custodial work for performance to standards. Discusses outcome of these inspections with the principal and head custodian.
- Analyze and determine cost effectiveness of programs and the prudent management of department funds.
- Maintain such personnel and other records as are required.
- Make decisions on methods, supplies and equipment to be used by custodians in accomplishing assigned tasks.
- Coordinate with campus principals and head custodians to determine work schedule for campus custodians.
- Enforce safety rules and regulations based on federal, state and local policies and procedures.
- Provide a cost accounting report on all custodial services to departments in the district and all campuses.
- Recruit/screen and recommend substitute custodians and provide training and schedules for substitutes.
- Train and/or coordinate the training of all custodians.
- Maintain open communication with principals and/or persons in charge in an effort to provide the most efficient custodial services possible.
- Assure that procedures to control bacteria and prevent the spread of infections are given top priority.
- Direct head custodians and custodial staff in the preparation for emergencies such as hurricanes, wind storms and heavy rains. (Securing furniture away from windows, elevating furniture to prevent water damage, and securing or storing equipment.)
- Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Director for School Support Services.
