District Primary Purpose:
To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary Purpose:
To provide leadership, supervision, and coordination of all custodial services during evening operations to ensure district facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition. The Custodial Night Manager oversees custodial staff, ensures adherence to district standards, policies, and safety regulations, and supports the efficient use and maintenance of facilities. This role is essential in creating and sustaining an environment that is conducive to student learning, staff effectiveness, and community engagement by ensuring all campuses are properly prepared for daily instructional activities.
Education/Certification Qualifications:
- Education/Certification: Associate degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required. Relevant training in custodial services, building maintenance, and supervisory or management practices is strongly preferred.
- Experience/Knowledge: Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in custodial services and operations, preferably within a school or educational setting. Demonstrated knowledge of standard custodial practices, cleaning procedures, and facility maintenance requirements. Experience in staff supervision, scheduling, and performance management is required, along with the ability to effectively manage budgets and allocate resources. Must possess strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Additional qualifications and experience may be considered as deemed appropriate by the Board.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Administer custodial working schedules and procedures for all schools and facilities of the district.
- Assist principals in the evaluation of head custodians and assist them in addressing staff issues.
- Maintain schedules for all school and track the amount of cleaning supplies.
- Conduct custodial staff meetings.
- Coordinate and supervise summer school and summer cleaning projects to ensure the building is maintained and ready for the next school year.
- Supervise the custodial staff in cleaning and waxing floors.
- Conduct building walkthroughs twice a week and more often if necessary, and confer with principals if necessary.
- Analyze and determine the cost effectiveness of programs and the prudent management of departmental funds.
- Inspect completed custodial work for performance to standards. Discusses the outcome of these inspections with the principals and/or head custodians.
- Maintain such personnel and other records as required.
- Make decisions on methods, supplies, and equipment to be used by custodians in accomplishing assigned tasks.
- Enforce safety rules and regulations based on federal and state laws. And local policies and procedures.
- Provide reports on custodial performance.
- Provide a cost accounting report on all custodial services to departments in the district and all campuses.
- Provide custodial training and schedules for substitute custodians.
- Train and/or coordinate the training of all custodians.
- Maintain open communication with campus administrators in an effort to provide the most efficient custodial services possible.
- Ensure that procedures to control bacteria and prevent the spread of infections are a top priority.
- Direct head custodian and custodial staff in preparing for emergencies such as hurricanes, windstorms, cold weather, heavy rains, and/or hail.
- Determine the cost effectiveness of the department and the prudent management of department funds.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information as may be appropriate and expected of this position.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Custodial Department.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise assigned custodial staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
- Assist in hiring, training, and disciplinary actions in accordance with district policies.
Working Conditions:
- Work primarily during evening and night hours.
- Occasional weekend or after-hours assignments may be required.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, equipment, and varying environmental conditions.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required to meet operational needs or deadlines.

Experience and Knowledge:
Technical Expertise:
- Knowledge of custodial methods, cleaning techniques, and sanitation standards.

- Basic understanding of building systems and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to use work order systems, inventory tracking tools, and basic computer applications (e.g., email, spreadsheets).
