Position Overview
Currituck County Schools is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Career and Technical Education (CTE) Food & Nutrition Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will provide engaging instruction in food science, nutrition, culinary arts, wellness, and career readiness while preparing students for college, careers, and lifelong healthy living. The teacher will create hands-on learning experiences aligned with North Carolina CTE standards and foster a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver instruction aligned with North Carolina CTE Food & Nutrition curriculum standards.
- Teach courses related to nutrition, food preparation, food safety, culinary skills, wellness, and hospitality concepts.
- Develop engaging, hands-on laboratory experiences and project-based learning opportunities.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary classroom and kitchen/lab environment in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Assess student performance and maintain accurate academic records.
- Integrate employability skills, career exploration, and industry expectations into instruction.
- Utilize technology and innovative instructional strategies to enhance student learning.
- Support students in CTSO participation, including FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), if applicable.
- Collaborate with school staff, parents, business partners, and community organizations.
- Participate in professional development and maintain required licensure and certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or CTE director.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, Nutrition, Culinary Arts, Education, or a related field.
- Eligible for or currently holding a North Carolina teaching license in Family and Consumer Sciences Education or related CTE licensure area.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures.
- Ability to create engaging and inclusive learning environments.
Preferred
- Previous teaching or industry experience in culinary arts, nutrition, hospitality, or food service management.
- ServSafe Certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Experience advising student organizations such as FCCLA.
- Familiarity with Career and Technical Education programming and work-based learning opportunities.
