Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher – Family & Consumer Sciences
Reports To: School Principal / CTE Director
Employment Term: 10-Month Position
Salary: Based on North Carolina Teacher Salary Schedule and Local Supplement
Position Summary
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher provides classroom instruction aligned with the North Carolina CTE curriculum in areas such as foods and nutrition, culinary arts, personal finance, family studies, and consumer education. The teacher prepares students with practical life skills, career readiness, and industry knowledge through engaging instruction, hands-on learning experiences, and integration of workplace competencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging instruction aligned with North Carolina CTE Family and Consumer Sciences standards.
- Develop lesson plans that incorporate hands-on learning, project-based instruction, and career exploration.
- Teach courses that may include Foods & Nutrition, Culinary Arts, Child Development, Personal Finance, and Family Resource Management.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary food preparation and laboratory environment following health and safety guidelines.
- Integrate technology and digital tools into classroom instruction and student projects.
- Assess student learning through formative and summative evaluations and maintain accurate records of grades and progress.
- Support student participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), such as Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
- Provide career awareness activities and connect curriculum to workforce skills and postsecondary opportunities.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and community partners to enhance CTE programming.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Ensure compliance with state and district policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, Education, or related field.
- Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina teaching license in Family and Consumer Sciences through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
- Knowledge of North Carolina CTE standards and curriculum.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous teaching or industry experience in culinary arts, nutrition, or consumer sciences.
- Experience advising or supporting CTSO organizations such as FCCLA.
- Experience with project-based learning and career-focused instruction.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods during instruction.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work in a classroom and kitchen laboratory environment.
