Job Summary:
This product focused position tailors electronic and electrical systems for Cummins products. People in these positions will translate product requirements into hardware and software technical requirements that control the operation of Cummins’ products in a variety of customer applications. Additionally, there is responsibility to configure (tune), and complete comprehensive validation testing of the fully integrated hardware and software systems.
Key Responsibilities
Investigates electronic application and systems problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results with guidance from more experienced team members. Applies and improves electronic application and systems development processes and tools. Processes include system specification, modeling and simulation, calibration, Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), and troubleshooting. Application of tools for simulation, calibration, and product life maintenance required. Obtains input from customers, technical and product teams, manufacturing engineers, supplier partners, and other stakeholders to deliver information and recommendations that lead to quality product decisions. Makes decisions in the areas of electronic and electrical system design, requirements, calibration, and test that impact the quality and performance of calibrated subsystems and feature classes of electronic subsystems. Responsible for review of less-experienced developers/testers’ work to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient design. Provides independent leadership of smaller business impact projects or ownership of complex components, products, systems or services with greater elements of ambiguity over the senior or lead engineer level and with full accountability to the project team. Delivers independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge. Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across a functional discipline area within a business unit site. Coordinates and directs work amongst technicians and temporary student employees, assists in the transfer of knowledge to lesser experienced engineers through either indirect (scope of influence) or direct management of a small, local group of engineers. Provides support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role. Operates as a recognized specialist in a discipline or product area within the immediate team.

Qualifications
- Develop emissions controls as part of a Technology Development or Technology Integration Project. Responsibilities include determining the technical direction for advanced control systems, evaluating technology concepts, prototype system creation and control system development and implementation.
- Must have experience with Matlab/Simulink, embedded code development, model based controls and analyzing the behavior of (closed loop) systems using simulation to verify against requirements
- Experience in automotive/electromechanical hardware and system development, integration, testing, and debugging (hardware in the loop, test cell and test vehicles)
- Responsible for communication within Cummins and to delivery partners. Must be able to participate in high level technical discussions with customers and project managers.
- Experience in developing or applying control techniques or demonstrated ability to learn advanced control methods independently and at a quick pace.
- Lead the control algorithm or system development for a small project or a subset of a large project, including coordination of project plans, resources and handoff material.
- Define control methodologies and process to establish the best practices for emissions controls.
- Coach or mentor less experienced controls engineers in the development or application of emissions controls.
