Position Title: Graduate Assistant
Department: Office of Advancement – Development & Alumni Relations
Supervisor: Vice President for Advancement
Cumberland University, a private, independent liberal arts institution, is seeking a mature and energetic Office of Advancement Graduate Assistant to work a minimum of 20 hours each week, with members of the Advancement team in all areas including fundraising, alumni relations, prospect research, marketing, data management, and student engagement. This position is for individuals seeking a graduate assistant position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Standard Expectations:
- Possess the understanding of and commitment to the University Mission.
- Represent the University in an appropriate and positive manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Greet office visitors and answer email and phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
- Operate office equipment such as computers, photocopier, calculator, etc.
- Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekend as needed.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
Job-Specific Expectations:
- Provide support and leadership as assigned for alumni mentoring program and alumni-related activities including homecoming, reunions, networking events, etc. as well as work associated with the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
- Develop and coordinate an ongoing engagement project (i.e., student alumni association) to educate current Cumberland students about the role of the Office of Advancement, how we help them, and how they can be supportive alumni upon graduating.
- Assist with and manage selected alumni and event social media sites and webpages.
- Assist with planning and execution of phonathon, crowdfunding, and stewardship activities as assigned.
- Provide support for all advancement-related events including Phoenix Ball, Notes for Nurses, Ghosts & Goblets, etc.
- Conduct prospect review and wealth-screening for individual, corporate, foundation, and planned gift prospects as requested.
- Assist with maintaining integrity of CAMS database through systematic review and maintenance of donor and alumni information.
- Compose, draft, and prepare Advancement correspondence as needed.
EDUCATION
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Must be fully accepted into a master’s degree program at Cumberland University.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Required:
- Advanced computer knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office specifically Word and Excel.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to question.
- Ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently.
- Excellent people, customer service, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills by phone, in person or by the written word.
- Perform duties and responsibilities with limited supervision.
- Make decisions and establish work priorities on essential operations.
