Nurse Practitioner Resident

Cumberland Family Medical Center (CFMC) operates a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) offering a wide range of health and social services at multiple sites throughout Kentucky. To provide comprehensive primary care services to patients under the supervision of experienced physicians, focusing on developing clinical proficiency and expertise in family medicine within a community health center setting. This residency program aims to transition the residents to independent practice upon completion.

 

Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Delivering high-quality, patient-centered primary care services including diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Performing comprehensive physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and prescribing medications within the scope of practice and under the supervision of a designated physician preceptor.
  • Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans for patients, considering their medical history, current health status, and personal preferences.
  • Participating actively in the residency program's educational curriculum, including didactic sessions, case conferences, and journal clubs, to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, such as nurses, medical assistants, and social workers, to provide integrated and coordinated patient care.
  • Documenting patient encounters accurately and thoroughly in electronic health records, ensuring compliance with established guidelines and regulations.
  • Building strong rapport with patients and their families, fostering open communication, and addressing their concerns with empathy and respect.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and contributing to the overall enhancement of healthcare services within the clinic.
  • Adhering to all clinic policies and procedures, including infection control protocols and patient confidentiality guidelines.
  • Seeking regular feedback from preceptors and mentors, actively engaging in self-reflection, and demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Performing other duties as assigned, which may include community outreach activities or participation in special projects.
Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated clinical proficiency in a primary care setting.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of primary care principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Proficiency in performing physical examinations and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Ability to manage a diverse patient population with various healthcare needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dedication to continuous professional development and learning.

 

Required Education:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current state Registered Nurse (RN) license and Nurse Practitioner (NP) license.
  • National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or related primary care specialty.

 

Schedule Requirements:

Full-time position, 4 days per week, 100% clinic-based, in person work required.

Work schedules are set at the discretion of CFMC and may be adjusted at any time based on the operational needs of the organization.
