Job Description
The Deputy Sheriff I will carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office by assisting in civil, criminal, and public service law enforcement, including, but not limited to, those duties.

Current Cumberland County Employees will follow the County Promotion/Demotion policy.
Responsibilities
- Serves and enforces Orders of the Courts, Writs, Writs of Executions, Summons, Subpoenas and orders of court, subpoenas, and other legal documents
- Transports prisoners from county, state, and federal prisons and various facilities throughout the state
- Provides security for Judges, Courtroom, and county facilities
- Executes warrants
- Extradites fugitives from other states
- Collects monies from judgments in civil proceedings
- Seizes and secures property until sale or disposition is received
- Conducts and/or participates in Sheriff's sales of real and personal property
- Interacts with prisoners, county offices, and the general public
- Performs routine law enforcement duties and makes arrests
- Provides law enforcement as needed during strikes, riots, or disasters
- Assists local and state police and other law enforcement agencies in emergency situations
- Utilizes computer, typewriter, copier, fax, and other office equipment necessary to prepare and maintain statements and reports and efficiently perform job duties
- Attends meetings, seminars, in service training, and Act 2 recertification classes as required
- Performs other job related duties as required
Qualifications
- Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Driver's License
- Candidate must be able to successfully pass the physical fitness test administered during the interview phase
- Candidate must successfully complete a psychological exam
- Qualified candidate must have one or any combination of the following: a four year degree related to the criminal justice field, military experience, or work experience in a related field
- Candidate must possess a minimum of two years of experience in law enforcement or a related field
- Preference will be given for applicants that are Act 2/Act 120 certified
- Preference will be given to veterans
