Cumberland Container Packaging Designer – Structural and Artistic
Job Description:
This is a CAD operator – Structural Design position responsible for using CAD equipment to provide support to manufacturing by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches and diagrams. The candidate will also be involved with design of new cartons and modifications to existing carton designs. The focus will be to develop cost effective and structurally sound packaging, folding cartons, point of purchase displays, etc. for our clients representing a variety of industries. This position would also require candidate to have art design experience and the ability to work with customers and vendors on artwork projects for packaging.
Responsibilities:
- Create concepts and designs for existing and new customers
- Work collaboratively with Sales and Production to develop specifications for the customers packaging requirements
- Produce samples and mock ups using various techniques and skills such as CAD table for cutting samples on Esko Graphics Kongsberg XL46 86” x 186” table, for customer approvals and trials
- Read blueprints
- Calculate rule heights and scoring
- Take samples and convert them into Die Layout
- Design graphics for customer projects
- Interact with sales, customer service, production manager to ascertain design needs and objectives of customer

- Skills Required:
- Experience with CAD / ArtiosCAD
- Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator or similar software
- Microsoft Office
- Drafting, Design and/or Engineering background
Mental and Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a normal office environment with occasional time spent on the production floor. Requires regular keyboarding, sitting, standing, holding and gripping with hands and occasional lifting less than 25 lbs. Also requires ability to safely operate a utility knife and ability to learn and operate Kongsberg XL46 sample table.
Job Type: Full-time
