Description
General Responsibilities/Job Summary: Drivers are responsible for transporting trucks and trailers to our growers' farms for loading ducks. Together with a company helper, you will prepare the trailer and typically collaborate with two or more farm residents to load the ducks. After loading, you will return to our processing plant in Middlebury, IN. Most drivers and helpers complete two loads per day.
Requirements
Functions/Duties
o Plans and complete an efficient delivery and pick up route for the day.
o Maintains basic records of truck mileage and deliveries made.
o Ensures that the truck receives basic service according to maintenance schedule; reports larger service needs and mechanical issues to supervisor.
o Assists in general duties when delivery route is completed.
o Performs other related duties as assigned.
o Walk/carry ducks on to truck and off the truck
o Load the appropriate number of ducks into each pen on the trailer.
o Open and close pen lids on trailers.
o Assist in barn set up and ramp set up/adjustments.
o Assist driver in backing semi/trailer onto farms and to ramp.
o Clean and wash trailers.
o Do whatever is needed to help support the trucking department or overall live production.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
o Understand and practice good Animal Welfare
o Learn and understand duck behavior and how to move them efficiently
o Have effective communication skills to work with other employees and producers.
o Posses a CDL Class A
o Outstanding communication skills.
o Ability to independently make decisions with minimum supervision.
o Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize workload.
o Strong teamwork skills with a willingness to assist others.
o Ability to comply with all company policies and procedures.
o Poultry experience preferred
o Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but bot required
Physical and Mental Job Requirements
o Occasional prolonged periods of standing, walking, and bending.
o Need to climb and come down ladders.
o Not afraid of heights - comfortable working on top of trucks and ramps.
o Ability to lift 40 pounds.
Working Conditions
o Working outside in all types of weather. Proper PPE’s will be given.
