Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer 2 in Mossville, IL. The work will be done 100% onsite at the Mossville Tech Center, Monday–Friday, approximately 7:30 AM–4:00 PM, with minimal overtime anticipated. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $38/hr full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support laboratory testing and failure analysis of electric drive components and systems, with a particular focus on motors and generators. This position will conduct performance and durability testing, detailed component inspections, electrical checks, and root-cause investigations to understand and resolve product failures. The engineer will work in a highly collaborative electrification environment alongside design, controls, simulation, facility, and testing teams. Approximately 70% of the role will be hands-on laboratory work and 30% desk-based engineering activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing of electric drive components and systems, including performance and durability testing.
- Conduct detailed failure analysis and root-cause investigations on motors, generators, and related components.
- Perform hands-on inspections including electrical checks, visual inspections, X-ray review, and material and fluid analysis.
- Document inspection findings, test results, failure modes, and engineering conclusions.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams supporting product development, design, controls, simulation, and electrification programs.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures and use required PPE while conducting testing and inspection activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Agricultural Engineering.
- 1–2 years of relevant engineering experience; candidates with a relevant master’s degree may also be considered.
- Candidates with an associate degree and 4–5 years of relevant experience may also be considered.
- Hands-on electrical testing experience.
- Experience supporting product development activities.
- Experience with failure analysis and root-cause investigation.
- Strong organization, documentation, and communication skills.
- Comfortable working primarily in a hands-on laboratory environment and performing component inspections and electrical checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience testing or troubleshooting electric motors, generators, electric drives, or electrified systems.
- Exposure to performance and durability testing.
- Experience performing visual inspections, electrical checks, X-ray review, or material/fluid analysis.
- Interest in developing deeper knowledge of motor and generator fundamentals and electrification technologies.
