CUCAMONGA SCHOOL DISTRICT   CLASS TITLE:  CLINICAL SCHOOL COUNSELOR   BASIC FUNCTION:    Under direction of the Assistant Superintendent, Personnel and Pupil Services, to provide behavioral and educational counseling with individuals (students/staff/parents) and small groups of students in a school setting; to assist students in understanding and seeking solutions to social, emotional or academic problems and issues; to serve as a resource pertaining to student behavior management strategies, follow up as needed related to school discipline concerns; and welfare and attendance problems and concerns; and to do other related functions as required.   REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:   Performs a variety of individual and group counseling and guidance functions and activities, including social and emotional adjustment counseling;   Collects, organizes and analyzes student information through the use of educational historical data, test results and through the use of interview techniques; including universal screenings and knowledge of early intervention strategies;   Appraises student interests, aptitudes, abilities and attitudes utilizing a variety of strategies and techniques; career and guidance counseling;   Provides information and data to students regarding social interaction skills;   Serves as a resource to site and district personnel and members of the school community;   Meets, confers and counsels with parents, school personnel and members of various youth serving agencies in developing alternative solutions to student educational, social and emotional problems and concerns;   Creates and implements support groups for students and parents to promote continued social, educational and emotional growth and understanding;   Assists in the development and monitoring of individual education plans for students with exceptional needs;   Maintains a liaison with social service and your other service agencies in pursuing referral to appropriate agency;   Assists in identifying school program needs and participates in developing school instructional programs, master scheduling, and schedules geared to meet individual pupil needs;   Establishes, maintains and monitors the maintenance of a variety of files and records pertaining to student counseling, guidance, or related matters;   Assists in dealing with student behavior management problems, and in resolving welfare and attendance problems and concerns;   Plans, develops and presents, as requested, a variety of reports pertaining to site counseling, guidance functions and activities.   KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:                KNOWLEDGE OF:  Principles, methods, techniques, strategies and trends in educational, behavioral and social/emotional adjustment counseling;   Applicable and appropriate aptitude, interest and achievement appraisal instruments, techniques and procedures; knowledge of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process.   Social service and youth service agencies in the area;   Social, emotional and behavioral characteristics of kindergarten through eighth grade students;   Program evaluation and research techniques, strategies and procedures; and ability to provide in-service training.    Appropriate curriculum and instructional programs pertaining to students with a variety of aptitudes and varying interests.   Knowledge and/or experience with a Special Education Level Plan Area (SELPA), school district operations and an array of Special Education placement and service options.                ABILITY TO:  Assist students in effectively analyzing and developing alternative solutions to behavioral,  educational, social and emotional problems and concerns;   Conduct, analyze and effectively utilize a variety of individual and group testing procedures and instruments applicable to the K-8 student;   Effectively deal with site and district personnel, parents, social service and youth service agencies in resolving student problems and concerns;   Effectively participate in the planning and implementation of school guidance and curricular programs;   Communicate effectively in oral and written form;   Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls;   Establish and maintain effective organizational, public and community relationships.     EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:   Equivalent to the completion of an earned Master=s or higher degree in psychology, counseling and guidance, or a closely related field.  Middle School teaching/counseling experience preferred.    Two years of experience providing psychological counseling services (school based preferred).      CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:    Possession of a valid California Pupil Personnel Services: School Counseling credential. Possession of valid MFT license or valid MFCC license. Possession of valid driver’s license.      ENVIRONMENT:   Office and school environment.   PHYSICAL ABILITIES:   Ability to analyze and offer alternative problem solutions;   Mental acuity to manage assigned programs, interpret and implement rules relating to these programs, make policy decisions, evaluate results and make determinations relative to the effective performance of the tasks;   Facility to sit at a desk, conference table or in meeting rooms of various configurations for extended periods of time;   Facility to see and read, with or without visual aids, laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter;   Facility to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and to hear and understand speech on the telephone;   Facility to stand extended time and to walk extensively;   Manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer using both hands;   Facility to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversations, in training sessions, other meeting and on the telephone;   Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and up to 50 pounds to waist height and to bend, stoop, walk and to reach overhead;   Facility to drive a car.   TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   195 Days.   EVALUTION:    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Trustees policy and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.  The Principal and/or designee will give the evaluation.    SALARY:    Appropriate placement on the Management Salary Schedule.     Adopted: April 10, 2014
