Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Seamstress (Garment Technician) to assist with the construction, fitting, and alteration of undergarment-style prototypes made from nontraditional and non-woven materials. This role supports design and research projects focused on apparel for children and adults.
This is a flexible, as-needed onsite position — ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on sewing work but prefers a variable schedule. It’s a great fit for an experienced seamstress or alterations specialist who owns their own sewing business or wants additional project-based hours.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret patterns, sketches, and technical garment drawings.
Perform fittings and alterations to ensure proper garment fit on both children and adults.
Provide constructive feedback on garment design, fit, and function.
Sew, assemble, and repair garments using industrial sewing machines and hand-sewing techniques.
Collaborate with designers and production teams to meet quality and project timelines.
Inspect completed garments for accuracy, craftsmanship, and consistency.
Maintain professionalism during fitting sessions and follow all safety and confidentiality guidelines.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in sewing, tailoring, or fashion preferred.
Minimum 2 years of experience in garment construction, alterations, or related work.
Skilled in industrial sewing machine operation and hand sewing.
Experience performing apparel fittings and pattern adjustments.
Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Comfortable working with a variety of age groups (children through adults).
Preferred Skills
Experience with nontraditional or specialty fabrics (non-wovens, stretch materials, silk, leather, etc.).
Knowledge of patternmaking and garment prototyping.
Degree or coursework in Fashion Design, Apparel Production, or related field.
Schedule & Work Environment
Very flexible hours — this is a strictly “as needed” position with no guaranteed hours.
Hours will vary throughout the year depending on project workload.
Typical onsite hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, with options for evening shifts (3:00 PM – 8:00 PM) during the school year.
