Job Description:
We are seeking a hands-on Paint Lab Technician to support materials engineering testing and daily lab operations. This role involves preparing test specimens, operating lab equipment, performing standardized paint and materials tests, and assisting engineers with data, documentation, and process improvements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced lab environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and maintain mechanical and chemical lab equipment used in paint and materials testing.
Perform routine engineering tests using established procedures and standards.
Prepare test specimens, set up equipment, and execute tests according to documented protocols.
Support paint lab operations including ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, and assisting with failure analysis.
Create and update test plans, test matrices, and schedules using Microsoft Excel.
Maintain lab workflows and adjust priorities based on urgent testing needs.
Communicate test status, results, and engineering data to internal teams and enter information into databases or SharePoint.
Draft SOPs, schedules, and other lab documents as needed.
Participate in lab operations improvements to increase efficiency, reliability, and safety.
Provide guidance to engineers and other personnel regarding test procedures and results.
Ensure all painted parts and materials are tested in compliance with quality and enterprise specifications.
Adapt quickly to changing work priorities and meet strict time-sensitive responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
Hands-on laboratory experience (materials, coatings, engineering, or quality lab).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Ability to manipulate data, text, images, and tables.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to follow strict procedures, schedules, and safety requirements.
Strong communication skills for both in-person and virtual interactions.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or higher in a STEM or engineering technology field.
Experience in paint, coatings, or materials testing.
Familiarity with test equipment calibration and maintenance.
