Job Description:
Our client, a global leader in advanced technology and precision industrial machinery, is seeking a motivated Industrial Engineer to join their Drivetrain Operations team in Waterloo, IA. This role bridges the gap between shop floor operations and process optimization. You will spend approximately 60% of your time active on the manufacturing floor executing work measurement analyses, performing time studies, and updating incentive pay systems to maximize plant efficiency. This long-term 24-month contract offers a stable, premier opportunity for both seasoned manufacturing professionals and recent engineering graduates eager to launch their careers with an industry leader.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work Measurement & Time Studies: Conduct line balancing, time studies, and work measurement analyses for factory incentive pay systems (such as CIPP - Continuous Improvement Pay Plan).
- Shop Floor Operations: Provide direct, face-to-face problem-solving support to operators and technicians on the production floor (spending roughly 60% of the day active on your feet).
- Process Optimization: Develop and continuously improve heavy manufacturing assembly methods, manufacturing layouts, workflow routing, and specialized tooling designs.
- Technical Writing: Document new manufacturing procedures, process sheets, and preventative maintenance guidelines with strict compliance and clarity.
- Cross-Functional Communication: Partner daily with quality teams, supervisors, and facilities management to resolve bottlenecks and ensure data metrics align with production goals.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience Options:
- Experienced: 2 years of dedicated experience as an Industrial or Manufacturing Engineer supporting a production floor.
- Recent Graduates: Open to recent engineering graduates who have completed a structured, hands-on internship within a factory environment.
- Core Toolkit: Proven understanding of manufacturing and distribution processes, quality control methodologies, and labor optimization frameworks.
- Industrial Software: Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word) for data evaluation and report generation.
- Onsite Safety Compliance: Ability to wear metatarsal safety boots on day one and comfortable operating inside a dynamic heavy machinery factory environment.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Stand-Out Skills (Preferred):
- Prior hands-on experience running standard time studies under structured industrial compensation plans (like CIPP or equivalent incentive structures).
- Demonstrated background working with plant facility optimization or total preventative maintenance (TPM) programs.
